Evening Presentation
You get to travel on private property, only open for this event. There are great bush camping locations in the sandy country near Menindee or on the banks of the Darling river system.
Our guides or Spectator leaders as we know them are either experienced competitors or locals from the Broken Hill region so come with a wealth of knowledge. Spectators get up close to the action and also have the opportunity through their spectator leaders to chat to the competitors.
You can either sit on the sidelines and catch all the action - or if you wish, sit under a shady tree and read a book while the kids enjoy the Australian bush.
And don't forget you will be helping to support the local outback region just by visiting!
Updated Format
Spectators have been part of the event since 2001 and as a way of improving their experience in 2009 we came up with a new format which is great for spectators. On Sunday afternoon, the spectators head to the outback property and then stay with the competitors all the time through until the final night.
Whilst the camps will be separate at the property, you will be watching them each day and be a part of this roving community.
Included in our cost is camping at our Headquarters Camp which is at the Broken Hill racecourse - From Friday through until Sunday afternoon when we leave for the first outback property. This location is close to town for access to services, but far enough to relax and take in the view of the magnificent mountain ranges on the road to Tiboorburra. Here you will find toilets, showers and green grass for camping.
Not included in the pack are the special stages on Saturday night and Sunday in the Broken Hill area. These are open to anyone wanting to come along and catch the action with proceeds payable at the gate. Rotary Club of Broken Hill benefit from the Saturday night stage and Legacy Broken Hill from the Sunday stages. Come along to these stages and support these local service clubs. They also have yummy hot food and drinks on site at these locations.
