Volunteers

Both the Outback and Alpine Challenge use the services of keen four wheel drivers who incorporate the events into their holidays.

Volunteers form an integral part of any sporting organisation - Imagine the Grand Prix or Commonwealth Games without volunteers. The ARB Warn Outback Challenge is no different. We value, respect and appreciate the efforts made by the participants in our assisting program and therefore endeavour to provide the following;
  • A safe working environment
  • Training
  • Identification
  • Quality meals
  • Recognition
  • Opportunity to develop new skills
  • New friendships
  • References upon application
  • An exciting and rewarding experience
There are different positions within our assisting structure.
  • Area Manager - chief marshal for an area
  • Marshal - someone who is working on the special stages ( red coat)
  • Passage Controller - leads the competitor groups through all SS areas
  • Spectator leader - Assists with spectator village and leads trips to SS areas
  • Administration - scorers, communications, merchandise, press liaison etc.
  • Cook - cooking food for marshal at remote locations (not HQ)
  • Medical
  • HQ Site Manager and assistants - to manage HQ site and do a variety of jobs

Training

The Cross Country Drivers Association requires all marshals be accredited and they offer training programs at least twice a year. These programs train marshals in the duties required to work on the course.

The program consists of theory training where participants become familiar with the regulations. There is also practical training where competitors compete in small short courses and the marshals get hands-on experience. For information on these courses, contact the CCDA.

If you are interested in being a volunteer at the ARB Warn Outback 4x4 Challenge or at the Alpine 4x4 Challenge, please complete the Challenge Events Marshall Form (below), or click here to download a printable copy.
