Outback 4x4 Challenge 2010

21st to 28th May, 2010

Event Details

The Outback 4x4 ChallengeThe Outback 4x4 Challenge has been running for more than 10 years as Australia's Premier 4wd Event. In May 2009 the format was revamped where competitors now all travel together and compete on each of the properties together and was a huge success.

The new format still sees competitors on different properties with varying terrain such as rocks, sand and mud. It's more intimate with less than 30 vehicles competing. Competition Manager Paul Vanderhorst took all the best features of the challenge and incorporated them into a fresh exclusive event, open to four wheel drives and a limited number of spectators.

Dates for the event are Friday May 21st to 28th May, 2010.

This is how it looks;
  • The event is no longer held at different properties at the same time, the whole entourage moves as a group to each of the different outback locations
  • Competitors, although competing during the day in groups, will all be together for the duration of the event and camp together at night.
  • Spectators can tag along and follow seeing all the action.
  • Scores will be progressive at each location

Sanctioned by the Cross Country Drivers Association (CCDA) there are two classes of vehicles; Challenge and Production. Challenge Class consists of highly modified vehicles whereas Production Class fits into a more modest budget but is still tackling the same courses and is more than capable of winning the event.

Unlike other four wheel drive events in Australia, the special stages at the Outback 4x4 Challenge are extensive, creating a true test of endurance and skill for all teams, which have included international teams from; Malaysia, France, England, Scotland, New Zealand, The United States, Alaska, Venezuela and South Africa.

The event is not just for competitors. A select group of Marshals train with the CCDA to form an integral part of the event and often take on roles vastly different from their jobs back home. Family, friends and enthusiastic four wheel drive tourers also enjoy the event, spectating on all the action from a more comfortable setting amongst the gum trees or around a campfire. There are a limited number of spectator packages available on a first booked, first come basis. Only prebooked passes will be sold and these cover the event from Sunday night through to the finale on Friday night.
There are stages held in Broken Hill which can be attended without bookings.
As from the 2010 event spectator passes do not cover these Broken Hill sectors of the event which raise money for both Legacy and Rotary in Broken Hill.

If you want to be involved in this exciting first year of the next decade of the Outback Challenge you can fill out on the forms on the website or email us at info@outback4x4challenge.com but don’t delay as numbers are limited.
